Photovoltaic and Thermal (PVT)
If you are considering Solar Thermal and Solar PV as two separate items on your roof, you may wish to consider PVT which is a panel combining both commodities. On the top there is the photovoltaic producing electricity, while this is occurring heat is produced reducing the efficiency of the panel. On a conventional PV installation there must be a good space underneath the panels to allow ventilation, on the combined panels a thermal collector is attached directly to the back of the PV panel which increases efficiency by 15 to 20% as all the heat is absorbed which is then transferred to either assist heating your domestic hot water, or through a heat pump to heat your property.
These panels come in various specifications.
